Any news report on the dismal economy can trigger my coupon-clipping reflex. I find myself digging through the Sunday newspaper inserts like a prospector digging for gold. I'm on the internet looking for coupons for brands I purchase. Then, after compiling my list and gathering my coupons, I can't wait to get to the grocery store, coupons in hand and watch the register tick off my savings. Couple that with a TPD (temporary price discount) or an in-store special, and I'm ecstatic! My new hobby has been "how much can I save?" Never mind that I'm spending a lot of valuable time in search of - but I'm saving money - which right now is worth more than my time. I am not alone.
A recent comScore Media Metrix report that appeared in eMarketer stated that coupon sites were the fastest-growing online category. In November 2008, the coupon website category was up 32% from October 2008. While members of my household have not actually experienced job loss, sometimes we are purchasing as though we might at any moment. This type of behavior, I have read, is also in part responsible for the current economy. While I will remain prudent, I will also reap great rewards from buying on discount many of the great deals that are out there. And if I have a coupon to go along with that purchase, I'm really the winner. How about you, are you clipping coupons? Are you being frugal? How has the economy changed your buying behavior? I'd love to know!
