Keeping Web Design and Development Dynamic

“You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” —Mahatma Gandhi

Not much stays the same these days. Life is an ongoing process, one that has evolved into greater things because of change. The problem is, change is hard for a lot of people, especially when they become comfortable.

Most people forget that some change is good. It doesn’t need to come all at once; it can happen slowly — progressive change, if you will. There has to be room for improvement because if there weren’t, we’d be running in place, getting nowhere. I don’t know about you, but I’d like to get somewhere.

Part of my job and others who are Web designers or developers is that we must be progressive if we are to stay ahead of the curve, break the mold and improve our product. It’s the investment we make in our services that moves us forward in life, and it reflects on us greatly. We must learn something new every day and challenge ourselves. In fact, that’s a good goal for everyone to have.

There are many different kinds of websites — many. There are also many kinds of mobile devices (now including the new and fancy iPad), consoles and browsers that display websites. And don’t forget all of the programming languages that make a website come together. Deciding what device your design will be portrayed and what kind of development to use all depends on the product and message you want to portray, and sometimes it depends on your opinion.

What I designed yesterday may not be the design that is used today. The way in which it’s developed won’t be how it will be developed or designed a year from now. Website design and development is never the same, never will be the same; it’ll always be changing, and we have to change along with it. It’s a frightening process sometimes, but it’s a good process. It evolves our work as well as who we are.
