Kansas City, Mo. — Thousands of baseball fans at Kauffman Stadium were on hand when Kansas City Mayor Pro Tem and Sixth District City Councilman Alvin Brooks officially declared Sunday “Roberts Dairy Day” in honor of the company’s 100th anniversary.

Councilman Brooks represented Mayor Kay Barnes and presented a special proclamation to Roberts Dairy President Jeff Powell prior to the game between the Kansas City Royals’ and the St. Louis Cardinals.

“We are honored that Mayor Barnes is recognizing us in this way,” Powell said. “We have always considered ourselves an integral part of the fabric of the Kansas City community by supporting local events and organizations. So it made sense to partner with one of our good neighbors, the Kansas City Royals, to celebrate our centennial.”

Cow Outside the StadiumAs part of the festivities, more than 300 Roberts Dairy employees from the company’s Kansas City plant attended the game. They were treated to a catered lunch of hamburgers and hot dogs. Three of the Dairy’s four 14-foot-tall fiberglass cows were also stationed at different corners of the stadium after being transported from as far away as Omaha and Des Moines.

Sunday’s festivities were not just limited to Roberts Dairy employees. The first 10,000 children ages 14 and under in attendance received a cloth “Slugger Growth Chart,” courtesy of Roberts Dairy.

After the game, Roberts distributed more than 10,000 bottles of fruit drink to fans as they left the stadium.
