News and Information We’d Like You to Know
If you have lived in the Omaha area since the early 90s, you might recall a catchy jingle used to promote Metropolitan Community College (which was at that time known as “Metro Tech”).
Accompanied by a 70s guitar riff, the “Metro Tech, Community College, doing it all for you” was a commercial heard in heavy rotation on radio stations beginning shortly after the college was founded in 1974.
In 1992, the Nebraska Unicameral voted to change the name to “Metropolitan Community College” and the jingle was dropped from all broadcast advertising. That is, until this month.
Produced by Envoy, a new twist on the old jungle is airing on radio stations again — this time to promote enrollment for Metro’s Winter session. We’re confident that our marketing and advertising campaign (”Find Metro”) will continue an upward trend in enrollment.
Fall quarter enrollment in credit classes at Metro reached a new high earlier this fall (for the fifth year in a row). The 13,237 students enrolled this quarter is up 2.1 percent from fall of 2004.
And Metro’s student body continues to get younger, too. Most credit students – 69 percent – are in the 18-to-29 age group, while 31 percent are 30 years old or older. Over the past 10 years, the average age of Metro’s student population has dropped by 3.3 years, from 30.9 years in 1996 to 27.6 years in 2005.
