News and Information We’d Like You to Know
More than 350 people attended the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation’s “Omaha’s Finest” dinner and auction at the Champions Club Nov. 4, raising more than $31,000.
Omaha’s Finest annually honors individuals in the community who have significantly contributed to researching a cure and helping control and/or improve the quality of life for those suffering from cystic fibrosis.
This year’s honorees were:
Six of Omaha’s best restaurants hosted the buffet: Blue Sushi Sake Grill, Bob Monkey’s Noodle Zoo, Charlie’s on the Lake, M’s Pub, Spezia and The Flatiron Café. Qwest Center Omaha Director of Public Relations Dana Dykersterhuis served as mistress of ceremonies. Live music was provided by Star 104.5’s Nikki Boulay.
“We appreciate the tremendous outpouring of support from the community,” said Shannon Lee, executive director of the Nebraska Chapter of the CF Foundation. “Because of their generosity, we can continue to help fund extensive research into a cure for the disease that is happening right here in Omaha.”
CF is the No. 1 genetic killer of children and young adults. While young victims come to know and pronounce their condition as “65 Roses,” there is nothing flowery about this deadly disease. It affects the glands that produce secretions – specifically, the lungs and digestive tract. This dehydrated, thick and sticky mucus clogs the body, allowing aggressive bacteria to flood the body, ultimately breaking down the lung tissue and leading to death.
