Roberts Dairy was recognized for its contributions to the community today Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey proclaimed Monday, Sept. 4 as “Roberts Dairy Day” during a ceremony at the Qwest Center Arena and Convention Center. Mayor Fahey presented the proclamation to Roberts Dairy President Jeff Powell. Also on hand was Ron Richardson, retired past president of Roberts Dairy and Larry Kochen, retired Omaha Division Manager for Roberts. Representing the Dairy Farmers of America were Bill Siebenborn, DFA Board member and Roberts Dairy board member, Randy McGinnis, Vice President & Chief Operating Officer of the Central Area Dairy Council, Keith Bohlander, Region III Area Manager of the Central Area Dairy Council and Joe Bouslaugh, Field Supervisor for the Central Area Dairy Council. Designer’s Touch Owner Marian Holden was featured on Monday’s KETV Consumer Watch report, sharing tips with viewers on how to efficiently and economically create a home office.

Brian Kaminski of Envoy, Inc., has been appointed as AMA’s new President-Elect for the 2006-07 Board of Directors. He joins Heather Lee of the Joslyn Art Museum, who is the organization’s new President.
Kaminski (pictured, top) is Vice President of Client Services for Envoy while Lee (pictured, below) is a faculty member at Joslyn.
The AMA board manages all aspects of the chapter’s success, including the planning and delivery of a series of quality educational sessions, growing the large and active membership base, facilitating networking and knowledge sharing opportunities among AMA members, and heightening the chapter’s visibility to Omaha’s business community.

Envoy, Inc. worked with Markel BMW and the Susan G. Komen Foundation to make the 10th anniversary of the “Ultimate Drive” a success.
In the eight hours of the event on Aug. 16, 96 test drives were taken in specially marked BMW cars, totaling 3,482 miles.For each mile that was driven, BMW donated one dollar to the Susan G. Komen Foundation. Including a contribution by Markel BMW, the total amount raised at this year’s event was more than $8,500.
The Ultimate Drive received plenty of advance attention in the media and KETV, KMTV and KPTM included reports on the event in its evening newscasts on Aug. 16.
Dr. Ken Cowan, Director of the University of Nebraska Medical Center Eppley Cancer Center appeared on KETV’s morning newscast on Sunday, Aug. 13, to discuss the prevalence of breast cancer in women and the role UNMC researchers play in advancing overall knowledge about the disease.
Dr. Cowan’s appearance came in conjunction with Envoy’s publicity push for the Markel BMW “Ultimate Drive” event on Wednesday, Aug. 16, and the “Fire and Ice Fashion Show” by Agency 89, to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation on Saturday, Aug. 19.
The Eppley Cancer Center, working with The Nebraska Medical Center, is the only site in the United States to study a possible breast cancer “vaccine” that might prevent a recurrence of breast cancer in certain women. At this time, researchers are taking a closer look at estrogen and its role in causing breast cancer. They are also studying the genetics of breast cancer.
Omaha, Neb.— Kate Sommer was honored as the 2006 “Local Hero” for Markel BMW’s “Ultimate Drive” at the Breast Cancer Survivor’s Luncheon Saturday, July 29 at the Embassy Suites hotel in downtown Omaha.The Local Hero Award was created as part of The Ultimate Drive for the Susan G. Komen Foundation, a program that has raised more than $1 million a year for the past nine years, bringing the grand total to $10 million since its inception. This year’s Ultimate Drive event takes place at Markel BMW on Wednesday, Aug. 16 from 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Sommer has battled and survived breast cancer for nearly 20 years. She went through her first treatments in 1987 and battled a recurrence five years later.
“The Komen Foundation has given me a vehicle to channel the effects of a life-threatening illness into a life affirming experience,” she said.
Sommer has dedicated herself to the Komen Foundation since 1992. She currently serves as the fundraising chair and co-chair of the foundation’s Race for the Cure event. Sommer and fellow survivors will meet at Markel BMW at 10 a.m. on Aug. 16 to hear Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey proclaim it “Breast Cancer Survivors Day.”
Survivors will then get the opportunity to take part in a “Survivor Drive” through Omaha in a fleet of 19 specially-decorated BMWs. For each mile driven, BMW will donate $1to the Komen Foundation for breast cancer research, education, screening and treatment.
After each test drive, participants are given the opportunity to sign the lead car of the Ultimate Drive, pledging and commemorating their support in the fight against breast cancer.
Markel BMW is one of 243 locations around the nation participating in this national campaign. Money from the Komen Foundation is funneled down to local agencies, including the Eppley Cancer Center on the campus of the University of Nebraska Medical Center.

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the Ultimate Drive, which has raised more than $9 million. Envoy has come up with new and creative ways to kick off this year’s fundraiser. One new feature of the Aug. 16 event will be the issuing of a proclamation by Omaha Mayor Mike Fahey.
