Omaha, Neb. — Drivers heading east on Dodge Street near Memorial Park during Monday’s morning drive saw people holding signs, banners and tennis shoes strung together as the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation kicks off awareness week for its Great Strides Walk.
Monday’s event from 7 to 8:15 a.m. encouraged people of all ages to “Take a Step Toward a Cure” for cystic fibrosis by participating in Great Strides on May 13 at Chalco Hills Recreation Area, 154th & Giles Road. This year’s walk begins at 10 a.m. with check-in at 9 a.m. Pre-registration is available on-line at www.cff.org or by calling (402) 330-6164.
Each Great Strides participant is encouraged to raise a minimum of $150 through pre-paid sponsorships that are then used to fund research and care for new drugs to treat the disease and for the development of a cure. Nearly 90 cents of every dollar raised goes directly to CF research and treatment programs.
