Dr. Ken Cowan, Director of the University of Nebraska Medical Center Eppley Cancer Center appeared on KETV’s morning newscast on Sunday, Aug. 13, to discuss the prevalence of breast cancer in women and the role UNMC researchers play in advancing overall knowledge about the disease.

Dr. Cowan’s appearance came in conjunction with Envoy’s publicity push for the Markel BMW “Ultimate Drive” event on Wednesday, Aug. 16, and the “Fire and Ice Fashion Show” by Agency 89, to raise money for the Susan G. Komen Foundation on Saturday, Aug. 19.

The Eppley Cancer Center, working with The Nebraska Medical Center, is the only site in the United States to study a possible breast cancer “vaccine” that might prevent a recurrence of breast cancer in certain women. At this time, researchers are taking a closer look at estrogen and its role in causing breast cancer. They are also studying the genetics of breast cancer.
